SUMMARY

In this class students will learn about the parts of a broadcast, various roles and jobs required to put together a broadcast, and effective techniques for putting together a great show.  After the first 2 weeks of class, the goal will be to put together one broadcast per week.

CLASS RULES

  1. Refrain from talking when others are talking.
  2. Listen to instructions.  I will not repeat instructions multiple times.
  3. You will be working in teams.  Each person in every team is required to “carry their own weight.”  In other words, I expect all team members to participate equally,
  4. No wandering aimlessly!  There is always something to do.  If your job is done for the day, select one of the activities we developed as a team.
  5. ALL online resources (research, pictures, etc.) must be cited and included in the closing credits.  The reporter/researcher for each team must provide a list of resources used to the news anchors so that they may enter it into the final credits.
  6. Put all equipment away and leave cameras plugged in at all times!

BROADCAST COMPONENTS

Each of the broadcast segments below will be put together in groups of 3 students.  The group should designate the following jobs for each segment, making sure to switch it around from broadcast to broadcast: (1) reporter/researcher, (2) camera/prop person, and (3) segment producer/video editor.  Each group is responsible for creating APPROPRIATE music, graphics, images, video clips, etc. into the segment.  The segments will be as follows:

•    Sports Segment – National or Local

•    Current Events – Local

•    Current Events – World

•    Entertainment News

•    Weather Report

•    School News

In addition, there will be 2 anchors/show producers. The anchors will need to work with each group to get all required information to plan for the transition video/audio from segment to segment.  The anchors are also responsible for maintaining the main broadcast storyboard.

GRADES

You may check your grade online at http://www.engrade.com.  Mrs. Burke will give you a registration code on the first day of class.  Students will be graded on the following:

  1. All homework assignments.
  2. Daily participation.
  3. Each weekly segment.  This will be a team grade based on this rubric.
  4. Self-evaluations for each broadcast.
